On August 14, 1941, US President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill met aboard the British battleship Prince of Wales near the island of Newfoundland in the Atlantic Ocean for political negotiations, to work out a coordinated position of both powers on the war against Nazi Germany and her allies. As a result, a joint declaration was signed, known as the “Atlantic Charter”.
