On August 14, 1941, US President Franklin D Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill met aboard the British battleship Prince of Wales near the island of Newfoundland in the Atlantic Ocean for political negotiations, to work out a coordinated position of both powers on the war against Nazi Germany and her allies. As a result, a joint declaration was signed, known as the “Atlantic Charter”.
