World War 2 photo: Three Heroes of the Soviet Union from the 70 Guards Rifle Division of the Red Army. The Eastern Front, Great Patriotic War of the Russia (June 22, 1941 – May 09, 1945).
In the center is Red Army Lieutenant Ivan Vasilyevich Mishchenko. He was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for the crossing and retention of the bridgehead on the Pripyat River in 1943.
On the back of the Heroes of the Soviet Union photo there is an inscription:
“These are my machine-gunners and with them I’m in the middle. September 1943.”
