This group portrait shows officers of the 2nd Guards Taman Rifle Division in Germany during 1945, after the defeat of Nazi Germany. Unlike photographs taken on the battlefield, this image reflects the transition from war to occupation duties and, eventually, demobilization. It preserves the faces of officers whose military careers were shaped by nearly four years of uninterrupted combat.
Two men in the photograph have been identified by name. Standing first from the left in the second row is Junior Lieutenant Sergey Maksimovich Artyukhov. Seated in the center of the front row is Major Pavel Georgievich Razumov. Their identification adds valuable historical context, transforming the image from a generic military portrait into a documented record of individual service.
The 2nd Guards Taman Rifle Division earned its honorary title after the liberation of the Taman Peninsula in 1943 and later participated in major offensives that carried the Red Army through Eastern Europe and into Germany.
