Hungarian prisoners

 

Hungarian prisoners who were captured by the 144th Infantry Regiment of the 49th Guards Rifle Division of the Red Army are preparing to fight against the Nazis. This photo is interesting for its unusual history.

The veteran of this division V. V. Voitsekhovich mentions in his interview the exceptional case that occurred in early 1945 in Hungary. According to him, a group of about sixty Hungarian soldiers and officers was captured by the 144th Infantry Regiment, who appealed to the command of the regiment with an unusual request – to fight on the side of the Red Army.
