Fisanovich Israel Ilich was born in 1914. In the Navy since 1932. Member of the Great Patriotic War from June 1941. Commander of the submarine “M-172” of the 3rd division of the submarine brigade of the Northern Fleet. Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 3, 1942 for the courage and bravery shown in the battles with the Nazi invaders, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the medal “Gold Star”.
Israel Fisanovich went missing together with the submarine “B-1” from July 25 to August 3, 1944 on the transfer from Lerwick (Shetland Islands) to Polyarny. According to the main version, the boat was the victim of the erroneous attack of the Liberator airplane of the 18th air group of the British Air Force Coastal Command on July 27, 1944, north of the Shetland Islands. Also, the versions of a submarine on a floating mine or death in the result of an accident are not excluded.
