American pilots, Crew #12, who took part in the Doolittle Raid. The aircraft number is 40-2278. Nickname – Fickle Finger of Fate. Target – Yokohama. 37th Bomber Squadron.

Crew Commander – First Pilot Lieutenant William M. Bower;
Co-pilot, Lieutenant Thadd H. Blanton.


American pilots, second row, from left to right:
Navigator, Lieutenant William R. Pound Jr .;
Bombardier, Technician-Sergeant Waldo J. Bither;
Flight engineer-gunner Staff Sergeant Omer A. Duquette.


Lieutenant William M. Bower’s plane bombed the Ogur oil refinery. The American pilots made it safely to Chinese territory, where they jumped out with parachutes. Technician-sergeant Omer A. Duquette broke his leg during the landing. On the way to the place of assembly, we met in the crew of Lieutenant Richard O. Joyce (crew # 10). Both crews reached the rally point after 4 days.
