A dead American sailor from a team of 40-mm Bofors anti-aircraft guns of the US aircraft carrier Saratoga. The guns are filled with foam to extinguish fires.
On February 21, 1945, near the island of Iwo Jima, the Saratoga aircraft carrier was attacked by a group of kamikaze “Mitate No. 2” consisting of 32 aircraft (12 Susei bombers, 8 Tenzan torpedo bombers and 12 Zero fighters escorting them). As a result of this attack, the aircraft carrier was seriously injured (123 people killed, 192 wounded, 42 aircraft burned or dropped overboard) and went for repairs in the US.
