Yusup Akayev

Commander of the 2nd Air Squadron of the 47th Assault Aviation Regiment of the 11th Assault Air Division of the Air Force of the Red Banner Baltic Fleet Yusup Akaev (August 14, 1922 – November 19, 1949). He is from Dagestan, a Kumyk by nationality.
He has been at the front since September 1943. The commander of the 2nd air squadron of the 47th assault aviation regiment, Captain Yusup Akaev, by July 1944 made one hundred and four sorties, destroyed eighteen different ships, three locomotives, eleven tanks and many other enemy military equipment. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 19, 1944, for the exemplary fulfillment of combat missions of the command on the front of the struggle against the Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown at the same time, Captain Yusup Akaev was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal ( No. 4332).
