The 7.5 cm Pak-40 (officially 7.5 cm Panzerjägerkanone 40) was a German 75 mm anti-tank gun during World War II. The index “40” for this gun indicates the year the project was created and the start of experimental work. It is the second German gun (after the 4.2 cm PaK 41) to be put into service under the new term: “tank hunter’s gun” (German: Panzerjägerkanone) – instead of “anti-tank gun” (German: Panzerabwehrkanone). In the post-war literature, the authors used both terms when disclosing the abbreviation Pak-40.
