Wiesław Chrzanowski (Polish: Wiesław Marian Chrzanowski; December 20, 1923, Warsaw, Poland – April 29, 2012, ibid) – Polish statesman. Marshal of the Sejm of Poland (1991-1993).

 

Wiesław Chrzanowski biography

Born in the family of a professor at the Warsaw University of Technology and a minister during the Second Republic. During World War II, he fought in the ranks of the Polish Military Organization (Narodowej Organizacji Wojskowej), which was part of the Home Army, and participated in the Warsaw Uprising. After the war he joined the Labor Party.

In 1945 he graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Jagiellonian University, received a doctorate in science and a professor of law. He worked as a lecturer and professor of law at the Catholic University in Lublin.

1948-1955 – was under arrest
In 1980 he became an adviser to the Solidarity movement, in 1981, after 21 years, the ban on professional activities in the field of law was lifted for him,
1987-1990 – Dean of the Faculty of Canonical and Civil Law and Secular Law at the Lazarski University in Warsaw
1989 – became one of the founders of the Christian National Union party, in 1989-1994 he served as chairman of the party council,
January-December 1991 – Minister of Justice and Attorney General,
1991 – elected to the Sejm (head of the coalition Electoral Catholic Action),
1991-1993 – Marshal of the Seimas,
1997-2001 – Member of the Senate.
In 2001, he announced his retirement from politics.

Wiesław Chrzanowski passed away on April 29, 2012.
