In the outskirts of Gatchina, the headquarters of the 18th German army was located, a group of Soviet saboteurs was tasked with kidnapping a high-ranking Wehrmacht officer.
Valentin Oleshko and other scouts of the group, who jumped with parachutes to a prearranged signal – five bonfires – were captured by disguised Abwehr officers. Valentina Oleshko, along with other Soviet saboteurs, was shot by the Nazis in 1943.
