US marines with M1 portable flamethrower destroy the Japanese stronghold on the island of Bougainville.
The US Marines flamethrower operates under the cover of two gunners with self-loading rifles “Garand” (M1 Garand).

US Marines landed on Bougainville Island on November 1, 1943. Most of the Japanese bunkers were destroyed with flame throwers, but the Japanese kept part of the island until the very end of World War II.
