503rd Heavy Panzer Battalion

German tank crew from the 503rd Heavy Panzer Battalion of the Nazi Wehrmacht (Schwere Panzer-Abteilung 503) smoke at the convoy of “Tiger I” the Panzer VI Ausf. E tanks.
The Tiger I tank from the 503rd Heavy Panzer Battalion near the frame has the side number “224”, the long one – № “222”. During the spring offensive of the Soviet troops in 1944 on Right-Bank Ukraine, the 503rd Heavy Tank Battalion lost almost all of its equipment, and was withdrawn to France for reorganization and reinforcement, with the subsequent goal of strengthening German troops on the Western Front.
In the frontal armor sheet of the Tiger I heavy panzer there is a trace from the impact of the projectile.
