Entered into operation in 1937 as a Coast Guard ship, Spencer (USCGC Spencer) in the war years temporarily became the ship of the US Navy. During the Battle of the Atlantic “Spencer” accompanied the convoy of the sea, hunting for German submarines. It is famous for the sinking of submarines U-175 and U-225.
