French pilot of the Normandy squadron, Captain Albert Littolff (October 23, 1911 – July 16, 1943) in the cockpit of a Soviet Yak-1B fighter aircraft after a combat flight.
Albert Littolff was killed in aerial combat a month after this photograph was taken on July 16, 1943. At the time of his death, he had 6 personally shot down, 8 in the group (10 of these 14 aircraft were shot down by Albert Littolff, fighting against the Luftwaffe in the Battle of France, North Africa and Crete) and 2 unconfirmed enemy aircraft.
Albert Littolff was posthumously awarded the Soviet Order of the Patriotic War, 1st degree.
