The funeral of Ivan Zemnukhov

 

The funeral of Ivan Zemnuhov, the member of the underground youth anti-fascist organization “Young Guard”.
Ivan Alexandrovich Zemnuhov (1923–1943) was one of the organizers and active participants of the underground Young Communist Youth Organization “Young Guard” in the occupied Krasnodon city of Voroshilovgrad (now Lugansk) region of Ukraine. On January 1, 1943, Ivan Zemnuhov was arrested and on January 15, 1943, after cruel torture, died.
After the liberation of Krasnodon, he was buried on March 1, 1943 in a mass grave in the central square of the city of Krasnodon.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 13, 1943, Sergei Tyulenin and 4 more members of the Young Guard were posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
