The French prisoners, the volunteers from the Waffen SS – and General Philippe Leclerc (1902-1947), commander of the 2nd Armored Division of Free France.
The French battalion was attached to the 38.SS-Grenadier-Division “Nibelungen”. April 29, 1945 in the course of the battle against the American troops, 12 Frenchmen were captured, tried to flee and then were shot by the order of General Philippe Leclerc in Karlstein.
