At the end of 1940, the British arrested the ship Atlantic with refugees from Europe near the coast of Palestine. The British authorities exiled all passengers to the island of Mauritius, where one of the units of the Jewish Brigade was created from volunteers.

The Jewish Brigade is the only Jewish national military unit in the Allied forces during the Second World War.
The Jewish Brigade was part of the British Army.
The Jewish Brigade took part in battles in Italy, Belgium and Holland. During the war years, about 30 thousand volunteers passed through it.
