Frontline road near Gorodishche settlement in the Stalingrad area. In the foreground, near the abandoned German Sd.Kfz.261 armored vehicle, lies the frozen corpse of a German Army soldier.
In the distance the temple of All the Afflicted Joy. In the autumn of 1942, the headquarters of the army of Friedrich von Paulus, then the German military hospital, was located in the temple. The photo was taken in mid-January 1943, when the village was liberated by soldiers of the Don Front of the Red Army.
