Steinkjer is a town and commune in Norway, the capital of the county of Trøndelag.
The area of the commune has been inhabited since the Stone Age, which is confirmed by the presence of petroglyphs. In the pre-Christian era, one of the most famous Viking sacred sites was located here.
Steinkjer was heavily damaged by the Luftwaffe bombing on April 21, 1940, and as a result post-war functionalist buildings predominate in the city’s modern development.
