Soviet squadron commander Captain F.V. Khimich

 

Soviet squadron commander of the 127th Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Red Army Air Force Captain Fyodor Vasilyevich Khimich (April 22, 1917 – March 20, 2009) at the airfield.
Fyodor Khimich made his first combat mission on July 12, 1941. Most of those performed by F.V. Khimich sorties were missions to escort bomber air groups. For 3 years of escorting bombers and attack aircraft, the squadron of Fyodor Khimich did not allow a single ward aircraft to be shot down by enemy fighters.
In total, during the Great Patriotic War, F.V. Khimich made 535 sorties and personally shot down 15 enemy aircraft. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 26, 1944, Fyodor Vasilyevich Khimich was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.
