Soviet sappers in East Prussia

 

A Red Army unit of Soviet sappers is walking along the street of the burning German city of Insterburg in East Prussia. 3rd Belorussian Front of the Red Army.

The city of Insterburg (now Chernyakhovsk, Kaliningrad Region of the Russian Federation) was taken by Soviet troops on January 21–22, 1945.
The soldiers are armed with PPSh-41 submachine guns and home-made probes to detect mines.
