Soviet LaGG-3 fighter aircraft of the Red Army Air Force on the ski chassis – adapted for take-off and landing on snowy airfields in the Russian winter.
During the flight, the ski landing gear did not retract inside the fuselage as a whole. Skis being in oncoming air flow, which greatly worsened the flight characteristics of the LaGG-3 fighter. Therefore, since 1942, the ski landing gear was abandoned in favor of tamping down of snow aerodromes in order to be able to operate from the wheels.
