Imperial Japanese Army General Hata took part in the Russo-Japanese War (February 9, 1904 – September 5, 1905).
Between 1912 and 1921, he was in Europe as a military attaché in Germany, a military observer and a participant in the Paris Peace Conference (1919).
In December 1935, General Shunroku headed the Japanese Air Force, from August 1936 – the Taiwan Army, from February 1938 – the Japanese troops in central China.
From August 1939 to July 1940, Shunroku Hata was the Minister of the Japanese Army. In March 1941, he was appointed commander of the Japanese forces in China.
In 1948, he was sentenced to life in prison at the Tokyo Trial, but was pardoned in 1955.
