December 19, 1942 in Australia was awarded by General Alexander Vandegrift for the battle, which occurred on October 26, 1942 during the battle for the island of Guadalcanal (Solomon Islands). That day, Sergeant Mitchell Paige, alone with four machine guns, stopped the offensive of the Japanese infantry regiment, and after approaching the reinforcements he led a counterattack and knocked out the Japanese from the previously lost American positions.
