Red Army soldiers inspect the captured German trench on the Panther defensive line.
At the bottom and breastwork of the trench under the feet of the soldiers of the Red Army lie the uncleared corpses of German soldiers.

The German defensive line Panther ran along the line Narva – Novgorod – Pskov – Orsha. Red Army soldiers attempted to break through the line from February to July 1944. On July 17, 1944, the Panther defensive line was breached south of the city of Ostrov.
