Princess Elizabeth (future Queen of Great Britain Elizabeth II) with her own hands changes the wheel of an Austin Tilly car.
On the wing of the Austin Tilly car there is the emblem of the “Female Supporting Territorial Service”, a yellow circle with a number – the weight of the car, a black square – the headquarters car.
In the background of Princess Elizabeth, on the right is the Austin K2 Heavy Ambulance ambulance.
World War II began when Princess Elizabeth was 13 years old. On October 13, 1940, she first appeared on the radio with an appeal to children affected by the scourge of war. In 1943, her first independent appearance in public took place – a visit to the regiment of guard grenadiers. In 1944, she became one of five “state advisers” (persons entitled to perform the functions of the king in the event of his absence or incapacity). In February 1945, Princess Elizabeth joined the Women’s Auxiliary Territorial Service – WATS and was trained as an ambulance driver.
