PB2Y Coronado

U.S. Coast Guard sailors work on the crashed PB2Y Coronado American flying boat during World War II in Europe, Asia and the Pacific ocean.
The first production PB2Y Coronado entered service with the VP-13 patrol squadron. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, these aircraft, with their weapons removed, were used as transport aircraft between the west coast of the United States, the Hawaiian Islands and Australia. At the end of 1942, VP-13 received PB2Y-3 aircraft and was redeployed to Hawaii in early January of the following year, but the introduction of new aircraft into service was delayed due to problems with leaking fuel tanks. The same problems plagued the “Atlantic” squadron VP-15. Also receiving the PB2Y-3, she was stationed in the Bermuda Islands in May 1943 and began anti-submarine patrols.
