M4A3 Sherman medium tank destroyed an American tank from the 778th tank battalion, operating with units of the 94th US Infantry Division in the battles for the Saarbrücken bridgehead.
Two holes from artillery shells are clearly visible in the frontal sheet of the Sherman’s armor of the tank; the bodies of the dead German soldiers are in the foreground.
Next to the M4A3 Sherman tank is Sergeant Claude H. Phelps from the headquarters of the 302nd Infantry Regiment of the 94th US Infantry Division.
