Constant active actions of the Soviet troops in the direction of Vyazma forced German group “Center” army in the March 2, 1943 to begin the withdrawal of troops from the Rzhev-Vyazma bridgehead. Soviet troops began to pursue the retreating enemy (Second Rzhev-Vyazma operation), March 12 released Vyazma, and by March 31, 1943 Rzhev salient was eliminated.
In the USSR, M3 General Lee medium tank was delivered to the Soviet Union under the Lend-Lease (received about 1,400 pieces).
In the picture the tank is well marked rubber caterpillars – the biggest drawback of the M3 medium tank. During combat, tires burnt out and collapsed caterpillar – a tank became a stationary target.
