Lieutenant Jimmy Johnson (Lt. Jimmy Johnson) from the squadron of VMFA-112 (Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 112) demonstrates damage inflicted on his Chance Vought F4U Corsair fighter.
The photo was taken at the airport after the battle of the VMFA-112 against the Japanese fighter A6M “Zero” over the Russell Islands. Visible damage is probably the result of a projectile hit by a Japanese Type 99 aircraft gun.
