The last defensive positions of the Großdeutschland division of the Nazi Wehrmacht on the coastal ledges of the Balga peninsula near Cape Kalholz.
Communication units, hospitals and headquarters are seeking refuge in a 15-meter coastal cliff from Soviet artillery.

In the background of the Großdeutschland division defensive positions are improvised rafts, in which the retreating Wehrmacht soldiers were ferried across the bay to the Frishes-Nerung Spit.
