Major Petr Petrov

 

Hero of the Soviet Union, commander of the 254th Fighter Regiment, Major Petr Petrov next to the I-16 fighter. The photo allows to consider well the sight of PAK-1 (the sight is aviation collimating).

Petrov Pyotr Mikhailovich – participant in the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940. On April 7, 1940, “for exemplary fulfillment of the combat assignments of the command on the front of the struggle against the Finnish White Guard and shown with courage and heroism,” Captain Petrov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 300).

Major Petr Petrov is Member of the Great Patriotic War from the first days in the post of commander of the 254th Fighter Aviation Regiment, acting as part of the air defense of Kiev, then the South-Western Front.

On November 23, 1941, Major Petr Petrov died while performing a combat mission – near the Alekseevka station in the Kursk region – shot down by friendly anti-aircraft machine gun fire of the Red Army.
