The commander of the 8th British Army, General Bernard Law Montgomery, meets the commander of the German Afrika Korps (German: Deutsches Afrika-Korps (DAK)) – Wehrmacht Tank Forces General Wilhelm Ritter von Thoma, captured on November 4, 1942 during the Battle of El Alamein in Egypt.
As a sign of mercy for the defeated enemy, Wilhelm Ritter von Thoma was invited by General Montgomery to dinner. This fact caused a scandal in the English press.
