The funeral of the American sailors of the “Saratoga” aircraft carrier (USS “Saratoga” (CV-3), who died as a result of Japanese kamikaze attack.

On February 21, 1945, near the island of Iwo Jima, the aircraft carrier “Saratoga” was attacked by the Mammate No. 2 kamikaze group consisting of 32 aircraft (12 Susei bombers, 8 Tenzan torpedo bombers, and 12 Zero fighters). As a result of this attack, the aircraft carrier suffered serious damage (123 people were killed, 192 wounded, 42 aircraft were burned or were dropped overboard) and went for repair in the United States.
