The aircraft belonged to the 2nd Air Group of the 38th Bomber Squadron of the French Air Force. The 38th Bomber Squadron was stationed near the city of Auxerre) in Burgundy.
Returning from a mission, the bomber made an emergency landing on the field due to unfavorable meteorological conditions and was captured by German troops.
