Finnish soldiers from the Volunteer Battalion of the Waffen-SS are returning to home – a photo was made in Finland in 1943.
Finnish soldiers served in the Volunteer Battalion of the Waffen-SS, which was established in 1941 and consisted of 1,200 Finnish volunteers who signed a contract to participate in the war against the Soviet Union for two years.
The Finnish soldiers from Nordost battalion was sent to the Eastern Front in January 1942 and took part in the Battle of the Caucasus, lost 255 killed, 686 injured and 14 disappeared in the Battles against Soviet Red Army.
