The third Soviet pilot from the right is Ivan Mikhailovich Gerasimov. Guards lieutenant Ivan Gerasimov was killed in a plane crash near the White Church near Kiev in the autumn of 1947. The names of the other pilots and the location of the shooting is not known.
The Soviet pilots photo was taken against the backdrop of the Bell P-39 Airacobra fighter, which was delivered to the USSR from the USA by lend-lease. Bell P-39 Airacobra were in service with the 39th Guards Air Defense Regiment from 1943 to May 1945.
