The Chance Vought F4U Corsair No. 32 fighter from the VF-85 squadron “loses” its tail during an emergency landing on a Shangri-La aircraft carrier (USS Shangri-La (CV-38).
The cause of the emergency landing was damage to the fighter during a mid-air collision with its Chance Vought F4U Corsair from the Yorktown air group of an aircraft carrier during an air battle over the Japanese base Kure (South-Western part of Honshu Island, Japan).
