Panorama of destruction in Motomachi district of the Japanese city of Hiroshima, destroyed by an explosion of the American atomic bomb.
The photo was taken from the roof of the Hiroshima Prefecture Commercial Association building at a distance of 260 meters (285 yards) from the epicenter of the atomic explosion.
To the left of the center of the panorama is the building of the Hiroshima Industrial Chamber, now known as the “Nuclear Dome”. The epicenter of the explosion was located 160 meters further and slightly to the left of the building, closer to the Motoyasu bridge at an altitude of 600 meters. Aioi Bridge with tram tracks (on the right of the photo) was the target point for the bombardier of the Enola Gay plane, which dropped an atomic bomb on the city.
