At the request of the British command to strengthen the Anglo-Indian garrison of the colony, the Canadian government sent two infantry battalions of Canadian Army to Hong Kong, which arrived in the city on November 16, 1941.
Later, both Canadian Army battalions shared the fate of the garrison of Hong Kong: the perfidious attack of Japan on December 8, 1941, a short armed resistance and capitulation on December 25, 1941. From 1973, Canadian Army soldiers more than 25 percent never return home, and the rest will remain in Japanese captivity until the end of World War II.
