Battle of the Atlantic: Canadian Levis Corvette (HMCS Levis) sinking after a torpedo hit from a German submarine in September 1941.
Levis Corvette, the board number is K115, class – Flower, was built in Canada.
Levis Corvette, the construction started on March 11, 1940, launched on September 4, 1940, accepted into the Canadian navy on May 16, 1941.
The Levis Corvette was used in the North Atlantic to escort Allied naval convoys between Halifax and the Western approaches.
The Levis corvette was torpedoed while escorting the marine convoy SC44 from a German submarine U-73 at 02:05 am on September 19, 1941 in the North Atlantic (18 sailors were killed, 91 were saved). Levis Corvette finally sank at about 17:00.
Levis Corvette is the first flower type corvette lost in combat.
