Canadian Comox minesweeper

 

The Comox minesweeper from the Canadian Navy walks along the coast.
The Canadian Comox minesweeper (HMCS Comox) had tail numbers N64 and J64; belonged to the Fundy class.
Comox minesweeper was built in Vancouver (Canada).
Comox minesweeper construction commenced on February 5, 1938, launched on August 9, 1938, and commissioned into the Canadian Navy on November 23, 1938.

Comox minesweeper, main characteristics: displacement – 460 tons, length – 50 m, width – 8.4 m, draft – 4.4 m. Maximum speed – 12 knots. Crew – 38 people. Armament – one 101.6 mm cannon (QF 4-inch Mk IV).

The Comox minesweeper was used in the coastal waters of Canada predominantly on the east coast. On January 15, 1945, SS Martin van Buren, torpedoed by the German submarine U-1232, took on board the surviving sailors from the American transport.

Comox minesweeper withdrawn from the Canadian Navy on 27 July 1945.
