The burnt-out hull of the Soviet-made amphibious assault ship DS-9 (LCI-554) on the beach of Shumshu Island, where the landing of the Red Army Marine Corps. In the battle, almost the entire crew of the landing craft, headed by its commander, Lieutenant V.P. Guryev.

DS-9, the former USS LCI-554 (L), before it was transferred to the USSR, took part in Operation Overlord (landing in Normandy on June 6, 1944), landed infantry on Omaha Beach.
