tanker Dixie Arrow

 

An American Dixie Arrow tanker, torched off the coast of Virginia, torpedoed by a GermanU-71 submarine of the Nazi Kriegsmarine.
Two torpedoes got into the ship, it sank two hours later with a cargo of crude oil on board. 11 crew members were killed in torpedo explosions and fires, the remaining 22 were rescued by the destroyer Tarbell (USS Tarbell (DD 142).
