The British Empress of Asia passenger liner (RMS Empress of Asia, displacement – 16909 tons), damaged in an attack by nine Japanese bombers in the vicinity of Singapore and sank that day, is on fire. As a result, 27 people died, 93 were injured, 1804 were rescued by the escort ships that approached.
The liner “Empress of Asia” sailed to Singapore besieged by the Japanese with reinforcements (about 1,500 men from the British 18th Infantry Division) and military equipment.
