The bombing of the allies of the capital of Bulgaria, Sofia city, on April 30, 1944. The picture was taken from one of the American bombers.
450 heavy bombers took part in this raid: American B-17s, B-24s and English Halifaxes, accompanied by 150 P-38 Lightning fighters. As a result of the bombing in Sofia there were about two thousand fires. During the raid, eight bombers and three “Lightning” were shot down. The Bulgarians lost five fighters and three made forced landing.
