Douglas SBD Dauntless bomber

 

The Douglas SBD Dauntless bomber from the VB-16 bomber squadron is flying over the Washington battleship (BB-56) during the invasion of Gilbert Island.

The aircraft carries out anti-submarine patrolling, as evidenced by a depth bomb under the fuselage. In the background, the aircraft carrier Lexington (CV-16), from which Douglas SBD Dauntless bomber took off.
