On April 25, 1945, the residence was bombed by the British Air Force, but was not completely destroyed. As the Allied troops approached the residence, the SS men who remained in the Berghof set the buildings on fire. The local population looted things from the residence. On May 4, 1945, the residence was captured by units of the American and French armies.
