Battle of Gołdap

 

German soldiers on the street of the town in the Battle of Goldap (now Goldap/Gołdap as part of Poland) after the retreat of the Red Army.
The Soviet troops, who occupied the city during the Gumbinnen-Goldap offensive operation, could not hold it and, under the onslaught of the reserves brought up by the Wehrmacht, retreated from the town.
